What do the words, From the depths,
that Ivo Dekovic used to entitle his new works tell us at first? Do his
unterwater photos not intend to tell us that we, for a great extent of our
time, actually inhabit the surface layer of the world? And moreover, we
ask ourselves, following the sequence of the previous inquiry, did Dekovic
not in fact intend to say that there where one stares at the surface, where
one dwells only on the surface, where one constantly touches the surface,
finally: there where only the surface is used and utilized, one lives and
exists only superficially; that only superficial life is consumed? Maybe
that is exactly what Ivo had in mind, and maybe it is as he sees it: that
which is superficial, in the world around us and in our very being, increasingly
diminishes the importance of that which is deep. Life is becoming faster
and there is a greater number of those uprooted, and it is easier to slide
on a smooth surface, than it is to dive into thick depths...
